ICC Confirms England as WTC Final Host Until 2031, India’s Bid Rejected

India failed to convince the ICC that it would be able to host the World Test Championship Finals ideally on its territory. According to an official statement from the International Cricket Council, the following three tournaments (in 2027, 2029, and 2031) will be held in England. Thus, the United Kingdom remains a strategic location for one of the major cricket competitions. India’s bid has been canceled.
Reasonable choice
In justifying its choice in favor of England, the ICC emphasized that the country has a number of logistical advantages. Additionally, it has extensive experience hosting such tournaments at the highest level. It is worth recalling that the World Test Championship Finals were held in England in 2021, 2023, and 2025. The competitions attracted impressive audience interest, and the stadiums were filled even though England did not make it to the finals.
Reasons for rejecting India’s bid
When deciding to reject India’s bid to host the WTC, the ICC acknowledged the country’s undoubted advantages (including its developed infrastructure). However, the disadvantages outweighed the benefits. These include political tensions and doubts about high spectator attendance if Men in Blue does not reach the final.
