Sanju Samson Stays with Rajasthan Royals for IPL 2026

Sanju Samson remains Rajasthan Royals captain for IPL 2026 despite injury-plagued season and CSK transfer rumors

The Indian Premier League (IPL) off-season is currently underway, and fans are happily discussing rumors about possible player moves to other franchises. One of the most discussed cricketers these days is Sanju Samson. The Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain has been actively linked with a move to another club after his team failed in the season, and he himself was tormented by injuries. However, the player is likely to stay with his current franchise.

What happened

The past IPL season turned out to be extremely disappointing for RR. They won just four matches out of 14 and finished ninth in the standings. Samson played in nine games out of 14 and scored 285 runs. He missed five more matches due to injuries. First, he suffered a fracture in the index finger of his right hand in February and had to undergo surgery. And later, the player suffered from a side strain. In his absence, Riyan Parag took over as captain, but it didn’t help RR, and they had one of their worst seasons in recent years.

Samson stays

An injury-riddled and underwhelming IPL 2025 season has led to speculation that Samson may move to another franchise. One of the clubs he was most interested in was the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who are in need of a new captain. That said, as it became clear the other day, Sanju is not going anywhere. The Times of India (TOI) has received insider information that RR has no intention of getting rid of one of their best players and has decided to keep him in their team, including as captain (it is clarified that Samson’s captaincy role is not in question). Thus, the player and the Royals will try together to improve the team’s performance in IPL 2026.
