Ravichandran Ashwin retirement from IPL

Despite the IPL being in its off-season, there is no shortage of news related to the competition. Recently, renowned player Ravichandran Ashwin statedvia his social media account on X that he will no longer be participating in the IPL. He clarified that this decision does not mean he is retiring from cricket altogether. Instead, he intends to explore opportunities in other cricket tournaments.

Unsuccessful last season 

Ravichandran Ashwin’s final season in the IPL was with CSK. The team acquired him ahead of the 2025 season for INR 9.75 Crore. But the expectations from him were not met. He played only 9 games, taking 7 wickets. In August, the franchise decided to release him. This marked the end of the 38-year-old Ashwin’s IPL career, in which he played 16 seasons and 221 matches for various teams. Over this period, he took 187 wickets, ranking fifth in the league’s all-time list.

Past career highlights 

Ashwin had previously played for CSK, making his IPL debut with the team in 2009. He helped it become champion in 2010 and 2011, amassing 13 and 20 wickets respectively. In 2010, he was also named the player of the series in CSK’s Champions League T20 triumph. In 2014, Ravichandran won his second such trophy with CSK.

After that, cricketer left CSK and played for Rising Pune Supergiant, PBKS, DC and RR.
