It is possible that in the foreseeable future, the ban criticized by the Indian team players on accompanying their families on foreign tours will be reconsidered. According to insider information, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering this possibility following the team’s recent successful results and open criticism from star cricketers. Virat Kohli, in particular, opposed the restriction, emphasizing that family has a crucial impact on the mental state of players.

Reason for Criticism

Virat’s comment came after the BCCI tightened its policy on Indian players in the wake of poor results against Australia and New Zealand. The cricketer emphasized that every sportsperson understands how important it is to come home and relax after an intense day on the field. Therefore, he expressed disappointment that under the new BCCI rules, families can stay with the players away for a maximum of two weeks.

Legendary personalities of Indian cricket supported Virat’s opinion. So, former World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev. He recalled that when he was a player, the tour was divided into two parts. In the first instance, the players focused solely on cricket, and in the second, their families joined them. Dev emphasized that balance is critical.

It’s Important to Find a Balance

It may be recalled that a few months ago, coach Gautam Gambhir raised concerns about locker room cohesion during a review meeting on India’s disappointing tour of Australia. As a result, the BCCI tightened restrictions for family members of players to travel with them. However, the policy is likely to be changed. It is crucial that not only does it have a positive impact on team cohesion but also that the mental health of the players is prioritized.

It is worth noting that several star players from India, including Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, enjoyed the company of their families during the recent Champions Trophy 2025 in the UAE. Virat emphasized that being with the family has a perfect effect on the players, giving them an emotional boost.
