CSK Adhere to IPL Regulations in Brevis Signing

CSK clarify Dewald Brevis signing followed IPL regulations after R Ashwin’s comments spark debate

Despite the IPL off-season, journalists are not short of news. Recently, CSK had to release a special statement regarding the signing of Dewald Brevis in the middle of the IPL 2025 season. This move was in response to comments made by R Ashwin.

The Core of the Situation

During a broadcast on YouTube, R Ashwin expressed the opinion that Super Kings had to pay ‘extra money’ to include the South African cricketer in their squad mid-season. According to the expert, he had heard that two or three other squads were also interested in signing Brevis, but they could not afford to pay the extra cash. Ashwin suggested that the condition of a specific sum might have been set by the player to increase his value in the upcoming IPL auction.

CSK Response

Whether there is any truth to R Ashwin’s speculations is unknown. However, CSK issued an official statement to clarify the situation. In it, the squad emphasized that Brevis was signed in April 2025 in full compliance with existing rules. He was paid INR 2.2 crore for his services. The entire process, as clarified, was conducted in accordance with clause 6.6 of the IPL Player Regulations 2025-27 relating to replacement cricketers. Furthermore, CSK reminded that they had already released a statement on April 18, detailing the exact terms of the player’s signing.
