Former Indian Spinner Sairaj Bahutule to Coach Punjab Kings
PBKS have named Sairaj Bahutule as their new spin bowling coach ahead of the IPL 2026 season. The specialist replaces Sunil Joshi, who held the position from 2023 to 2025. Bahutule is a former Indian leg-spinner. He has years of coaching experience across Indian domestic cricket. Sairaj has previously worked with Kerala, Gujarat, Vidarbha, and Bengal, and also served as a coach with RR in the IPL.
The move signals Punjab Kings’ intent to reinforce their spin unit and add tactical depth before the new season. CEO Satish Menon thanked Joshi for his service and welcomed Bahutule on board in his official commentary. The coach, in turn, said that he is thrilled to be part of this project.
Focus on youth and balance
Bahutule’s appointment comes as PBKS look to fine-tune their bowling attack ahead of IPL 2026. The squad has placed particular emphasis on developing young spinners and domestic bowlers. Known for his ability to mentor emerging talent and prepare them for high-pressure environments, Sairaj is expected to play a key role in shaping a disciplined and effective attack.
For PBKS, the IPL 2025 season was successful, but not completely. The squad finished first in the tournament table. They won 9 matches out of 14 and earned 19 points. After losing in the first Qualifier to their RCB opponents, the franchise defeated MI in Qualifier 2 and reached the final for the first time since 2014. There, they faced RCB, and for the first time in their history, Royal Challengers became champions, defeating the Kings by 6 runs.
