IPL 2025: Iyer and Singh Propel Punjab Kings to Victory Over Gujarat Titans

On March 25, Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) by 11 runs in their first match of the new 18th IPL season. The game turned out to be very tense and delighted the fans with its unpredictability. Captain Shreyas Iyer became the main hero in the PBKS lineup.

Great Debut for Iyer 

Iyer made a stunning debut as captain of PBKS. He smashed an unbeaten 97 off just 42 balls and helped the team post a massive total of 243 for 5. Shashank Singh also played a key role with a quickfire 44 off 16 balls. He smashed 23 runs in the final over to end the innings on a high note. PBKS scored 135 runs in the last eight overs. GT’s bowling and fielding struggled to keep up. 

Despite a late surge from Sherfane Rutherford, GT could only manage 232 for 5, falling short by 11 runs. PBKS’ bowlers, including Arshdeep Singh, Vijaykumar Vyshak, and Marco Jansen, applied pressure on GT’s batsmen. Vyshak conceded just five runs in the 15th over, while Jansen gave away only eight in his. Arshdeep’s tight bowling in the middle overs was instrumental in slowing down GT’s chase. His team will next play the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 1, while GT will host the Mumbai Indians (MI) on March 29.
