IPL 2025: Lucknow Super Giants Edge Mumbai Indians by 12 Runs

Lucknow beats Mumbai by 12 runs

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) picked up their second win in the 18th IPL season. On April 4, the team outplayed rivals Mumbai Indians (MI) by 12 runs (203/8 against 191/5). The losing team attempted to be led by Suryakumar Yadav (67 off 43) and Hardik Pandya (5/36), but their efforts were insufficient.

LSG Aggressive Start

LSG started the match with the bat and showed aggressive and effective play, thanks primarily to the efforts of Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram. The former scored 60 off 31 balls (including nine fours and two sixes), and the latter contributed 53 off 38. Their actions in the form of a 91-run stand laid a solid foundation for the team’s final total.

Hardik Pandya made an impact on the score by taking 5/36 in his four overs. Vignesh Puthur, Ashwani Kumar, and Trent Boult each chipped in with a wicket, but it was still not enough for MI, given the outstanding performance of LSG’s batters.

MI Failed Chase

MI had to chase 204 to win, but unlike their opponents, the team did not get off to a good start. Openers Will Jacks (5) and Ryan Rickelton (10) departed cheaply, sowing doubts among the fans that their favorites would be able to bounce back. But Naman Dhir returned their hopes with 46 off 24 balls, and after that, Yadav and Pandya contributed. The former anchored the innings with 67 off 43, while the latter gave away 28 off 16.

Alas, all this was not enough. LSG’s disciplined bowlers restricted MI to 191/5 in 20 overs. This eventually earned their team their second win of the current IPL season.

Upcoming Schedule

LSG will play Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their next clash on April 8. Their upcoming opponent in the current season has won two games and suffered two defeats. MI are having a disappointing season – they have just one win with three losses in four games. The team will try to get back on the winning track on April 7 when they take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Wankhede.
