IPL 2025: Three Cities Shortlisted to Host Remaining Matches

Last week, the BCCI held consultations with franchises, partners, and broadcasters and decided to halt the 18th season of the IPL. The tournament has entered its final phase. As of now, only three teams (RR, SRH, and CSK) will officially fail to make the playoffs. Seven teams are still in contention.
16 games left
At the time of the stoppage of the league, there were 12 matches left to be played in the group stage, as well as four playoff clashes. Indian troops are currently conducting a military operation on the border. It is connected with the recent terrorist attack on civilians and aggression by Pakistan. Under these circumstances, the Board opted to take care of the safety of the teams and fans.
What’s next
Initially, IPL 2025 was supposed to conclude on May 25, but now the competition’s final date is in doubt. The BCCI is investigating the situation to see how to rework the schedule. It all depends on how the military events unfold.
Potential venues
The Board has shortlisted three locations as hosts for the unplayed games: Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad. But this plan will only be implemented if the tournament resumes in May. This puts a question mark on the availability of overseas cricketers. Many of them have reportedly returned home for security reasons.
It is worth noting that among the teams whose cities are being considered for the playoffs, only RCB can still make it to the top four. So, matches in Chennai and Hyderabad could give this franchise an advantage during the knockout stage.
