IPL 2025: Yadav Sets Record as Fastest Indian to 4,000 Runs in MI’s Win

On April 27, the 45th game of the 18th IPL season was played. In it, Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 54 runs. It was the team’s fifth consecutive win to move into the top 3 in the standings. MI became the first franchise in the history of IPL to have 150 wins. But that was not the only significant event that marked the match.
Yadav’s Record-Breaking Achievement
Suryakumar Yadav (SKY), MI’s star batter, made history in the match against LSG. He became the fastest Indian with 4,000 runs in IPL history. The player managed to do so in just 2,714 balls. He surpassed the record that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) legend Suresh Raina held.
Suryakumar now ranks third among all cricketers for the fastest to 4,000 IPL runs, behind only legendary AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle. They both accomplished this task in 2,658 deliveries. Needing 33 runs before the match to hit the mark, Suryakumar reached it with a boundary off Avesh Khan in the 13th over. This achievement came in his 160th IPL clash and 145th innings. As a result, he amassed 54 off 28 balls and helped MI get to an impressive total of 215 for 7. It is also important to note that Yadav leads the Orange Cap race. He has 427 runs from 10 innings at a strike rate of 169.44.
MI’s Dominant Performance
During the mid-innings break, SKY expressed his joy at wearing the Orange Cap again and acknowledged the team’s efforts in setting a challenging total under difficult conditions. A disciplined bowling performance complemented MI’s dominant batting display. LSG, chasing 216, struggled to find their footing and was bowled out for 161.
Jasprit Bumrah led the bowling attack with a standout performance, taking 4 wickets for 22 runs. His efforts, along with Trent Boult’s 3 wickets for 20 runs, dismantled LSG’s batting lineup.
