LSG Mentor Zaheer Khan’s Exit Confirmed

The Lucknow Super Giants have not been in the IPL for very long, but in their first two seasons in 2022 and 2023, the team managed to make it to the playoffs. But it has not been able to replicate that success in the following years, failing to qualify for the playoffs in both 2024 and 2025. In the IPL 2025, the LSG won only 6 out of 14 clashes, finishing seventh in the group stage. The franchise started the season strongly with five wins in the first eight games, but managed only one victory in the last six. Additionally, the squad secured only one win in eight home games.
The departure of the mentor
Given the disappointing results of the previous season, it was logical to expect some changes within the franchise. Initially, these were just rumors, but they have recently been confirmed. The team is losing its mentor, Zaheer Khan. He informed the club management of his decision on Thursday, September 18th. According to insiders, the expert’s vision for the team’s development differed from that of head coach Justin Langer and squad owner Sanjeev Goenka.
Interestingly, Khan was with LSG for only one season. He joined the team after Gautam Gambhir, who now leads the Indian national team, left following the IPL 2023 season. Zaheer still had one year left on his contract. Prior to this, he worked with the Mumbai Indians from 2018 to 2022. After Zaheer’s departure, the Super Giants will have to consider who to fill the vacant mentor role with.
