Ruturaj Gaikwad Trolls CSK Academy Students for RCB Fandom

Ruturaj Gaikwad takes selfie with kids at Super Kings Academy after viral exchange about RCB fandom

Five-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had a forgettable 2025 season. They finished dead last on the points table – a first such occasion in their history. But the franchise isn’t dwelling on disappointment. With eyes on a stronger comeback, they’re focusing on key players, including captain Ruturaj Gaikwad.

The season to forget

Gaikwad’s 2025 campaign was derailed by injury. In five games, he scored 122 runs at a strike rate of 150.61, including a standout 63. But a hairline fracture in his elbow, sustained during a match against Rajasthan Royals (RR), forced him out early. MS Dhoni stepped in as captain again, but the squad’s struggles continued.

Gaikwad’s lighter side goes viral

Off the field, though, Gaikwad has been winning hearts. At the 2025 Buchi Babu tournament, the CSK captain was caught on camera in a hilarious exchange with young cricketers at the Super Kings Academy. When asked their favorite IPL team, several kids shouted ‘RCB’ or ‘MI.’ Gaikwad, grinning, mock-scolded them: ‘Everyone will remember your name, and no one will pick you for CSK.

The banter didn’t stop there. When a child asked about India’s best wicketkeeper, Gaikwad jokingly pointed to himself: ‘You didn’t see my keeping? Watch me on YouTube instead of Shoaib Akhtar.’ The video went viral.
